Tractor Trailer Driver Dead After Crashing into Fire Truck in Douglas County

More and more, we’re hearing of emergency personnel getting injured while assisting motorists on major highways. This is exactly what happened last week in Douglas County, Georgia. Douglas County fire truck had responded to the scene of an accident involving a Ford Mustang. The truck was parked on the right shoulder, along with other emergency vehicles. Emergency crew were attempting to extricate the driver from the Mustang. In an effort to protect emergency personnel and other drivers, the fire truck was parked on the shoulder, out of the way of traffic. A tractor trailer driver dead after crashing into the fire truck.

About 20 minutes after they responded to the scene, a tractor trailer, traveling westbound on Interstate-20 smashed into the back of the fire truck. The driver of the tractor trailer, 41-year old Javon Martin, was killed instantly. The truck driver, who was from Honea Path, South Carolina, was the only one injured in the accident.

At the time of the collision, there were 2 firefighters inside the ladder truck. Both were wearing their seatbelts, even though the vehicle was parked. Thankfully, neither of the firefighters were injured. Investigators say the seatbelts saved their lives.

The driver of the Ford Mustang was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center. Their condition has not been released, nor has their identity.

According to authorities, this is the second accident in recent weeks involving emergency vehicles. Both involved serious injuries or death.
