Columbia Co., GA (March 13, 2024) – A workplace accident reported in Columbia County claimed one person’s life. The incident occurred on Friday, March 8. According to reports provided by the Columbia County Sheriff’s office, a 21-year-old worker at a golf cart company plant located on Washington Road was involved in an accident involving a conveyor.

The victim, identified as Alyssa Drinkard of Grovetown, Georgia, reportedly attempted to pick up her AirPods under the conveyor belt when she got caught in the belt chain and became pinned under the machine. Coworkers called for maintenance to shut the machine down and dismantle it. EMS and firefighters arrived at the scene and located the woman, who was unconscious and not breathing. They cut the metal frame to remove her. She was rushed to an area hospital, where she passed away from her injuries on Saturday morning, March 9. At this time, the police department is investigating.
