Two men died in a McDuffie County crash on Thursday afternoon, May 13. The two-car crash occurred on the Thomson Bypass at its junction with Dallas Drive in McDuffie County.
The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Howard White and 23-year-old Will Smith. Both were residents of Thomson. Both White and Smith died at the scene.
Smith was driving a GMC pickup truck while White was the passenger in a Kia Forte. The Kia was heading west on Dallas Drive when the driver reportedly failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign. The Kia hit the truck which was traveling south on the Thomson Bypass.
The driver of the Kia and a passenger in the GMC sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. They were treated in a local hospital.
This McDuffie County crash took place just a few days after another double-fatality. That one occurred on Deans Bridge Road in Augusta on Sunday.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 21-year-old Noel Lett and 24-year-old Noah Anderson.
Coroner Mark Bowen said Lett lost control of his vehicle and this caused it to roll. He had to be freed from the vehicle and he was subsequently taken to Augusta University Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries at 9:31 p.m.
Meanwhile, Anderson was reportedly ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He passed away at 6:14 p.m. at the same hospital.
