Nobody ever wants to read about someone being killed in a car accident. But it stings just a bit more when you learn that it was a young mother of two. This is what happened in Kelly, North Carolina this past week when a mother of 2 was killed.
Alejandra Lopez, a 42-year old woman from Kenly was driving her white Lexus sedan on Highway 222 on Sunday afternoon. She had her two children in the car at the time of the crash. Her car was traveling Westbound at the time of the accident.
A man driving a pickup truck, traveling Eastbound, lost control of his car and collided with the Lexus. The man driving the pickup was 21-year old Percy Daughtry IV of Selma. He is a student at the University of Mount Olive.
The investigation is still ongoing. The authorities aren’t sure what caused Daughtry to lose control of his car. However, they did confirm that he has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. His condition has not been released although we imagine he was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Lopez’ two children – a 2-year old boy and 15-year old girl were in the car with her at the time of the crash. Both children survived the crash but there is no update on their condition. There has also been no comment made by the victim’s family as of yet.
The accident caused the authorities to close down the highway for several hours to clean up the wreckage. The investigation is still pending.
