A Norfolk, VA family is in mourning following a Christmas Day crash in Georgia that claimed the life of 45-year-old Billy Snyder.
The authorities allege that the driver, 33-year-old Brandon Mack, was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The accident occurred on Interstate 95 as Snyder was traveling to Florida. His wife Megan was driving the car in which their two-year-old son and a 12-year-old nephew were also traveling.
Police said Mack was driving at more than 100 miles per hour when he reportedly slammed into the Snyders’ vehicle.
State troopers have charged him with first-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and hit-and-run.
On a GoFundMe page, Megan recalled seeing their car flipping over multiple times. She said she was left in “tremendous pain from head to toe”.
The two children sustained scratches and bruises in the Christmas Day crash in Georgia but are otherwise okay.
However, Megan told the media the experience has been like a nightmare and she couldn’t imagine a life without her husband.
She said the family was about four hours from Tampa when she and Billy switched places after eight hours of driving.
Billy’s friends said he had been happier than ever in the past few years after “finding his soulmate” and having his son.
His best friend of more than two decades, Jake Burleson, said he had not been able to stop crying since the incident occurred.
