A Georgia man was driving the wrong way down Capital Boulevard near Wade Avenue this week when he lost control of his car. At about 2:30 a.m., Jordan Jamal Aytch, of the 1900 block of Brentmoor Drive was under the influence when he decided to travel the wrong way. The passenger was killed in a wrong-way accident in Raleigh.
He lost control of the car and ran off the road on the left-hand side. His car flipped and then landed in the creek. The car was submerged in the water when the police arrived at the scene. Aytch was taken to the local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.
Unfortunately, the passenger in Aytch’s car was not so lucky. Darius Jerrod Allen, also of Georgia, was ejected from the car and died instantly. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was evidence that Aytch was impaired at the time of the crash. This would explain why he lost control of his car and ended up in the creek. Aytch has been charged with a multitude of charges including: careless and reckless driving, felony death by motor vehicle, and driving while impaired.
There has been no comment from the victim’s family. However, there is a good chance that they can file a wrongful death claim against Aytch and his insurance company – if he had insurance.
This is just another example of how impaired driving can lead to disastrous results. Darius Allen will not be able to seek justice himself. However, his family may be able to. But there’s nothing they can do to bring their loved one back.
