Greensboro, NC (February 16, 2024) – Authorities confirmed that 62-year-old Marcus Antonio Nivens lost his life as a result of a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday in Greensboro. At around four p.m. on February 14, Greensboro Police Department was called to the scene of an accident on Interstate 73.
Preliminary investigations show that Nivens was driving on Interstate 73 S. when he ran out of gas. As a result, he pulled his vehicle to the side of the ramp near Interstate 40 W. A car responded to the scene to provide Nivens gas. After receiving gas, Nivens went to put it into his vehicle when a car passing through the area struck the car that brought Nivens gas before striking him. Nivens was fatally injured in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second car, identified as Destiny Hankins, was injured. She was transported to a local hospital for emergency care. At this time, the crash is under investigation.
