Atlanta, GA (January 27, 2024) – The magistrate court in Fulton County confirmed that 50-year-old Carl Gilmore was arrested as a result of a fatal accident reported in Atlanta on Tuesday evening, January 16.
According to local law enforcement, Gilmore was driving a 2021 Dodge Challenger on Campbellton Road during the evening hours. For unknown reasons, he changed lanes in an improper manner and collided with a 2020 Kia Optima. The vehicle then continued traveling at a high rate of speed onto Venitian Drive. Gilmore lost control of his vehicle and struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as Corey Jarrells, was fatally injured in the accident and pronounced deceased at the scene. Gilmore fled the scene of the accident before colliding with a utility pole and a sense, causing his vehicle to flip over. After being treated in an area hospital, Gilmore was taken into police custody. He is currently facing charges of hit-and-run, reckless driving, driving under the influence, and homicide by vehicle. Investigations are underway.
Our condolences go out to the family of Corey Jarrells.
