Fatal Auto Accidents in South Carolina
Fatal car accidents claim the lives of numerous individuals daily, with over 40,000 annual fatalities reported in the United States. Tragically, many lose their lives due to the careless and reckless actions of other drivers. In the aftermath of such a loss, families have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
A wrongful death claim is a civil action directed at the party responsible for someone’s death, seeking compensation for the losses endured by surviving family members. Unlike criminal cases that aim to punish offenders, a wrongful death claim focuses on providing financial relief to grieving families.
Typically, immediate family members like spouses, children, and parents have legal standing to file a wrongful death claim, with some jurisdictions extending eligibility to extended family members or dependents. Consulting with a lawyer is crucial to understanding specific eligibility criteria based on local laws.
