Sumter, SC (March 18, 2024) – The Sumter Police Department confirmed that 50-year-old Carlos Sumpter lost his life as a result of a fatal accident on Saturday morning, March 16. At around 6:15 a.m., the police and firefighters were called to the scene of an accident on Broad Street.
Preliminary investigations show that Sumpter was riding a bicycle in the area of Broad Street and Carter Road when he was struck by a van. Sumpter was fatally injured in the accident and immediately pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, the police department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
