Wellford, SC (May 9, 2024) – The Spartan County coroner’s office confirmed that two people died as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday evening in Welford. Authorities were called to the scene of the accident on May 7.
Official reports indicate that a collision involving two vehicles occurred just before midnight on Warren H Abernathy Highway. The incident blocked multiple lanes of the road near the Upward Star Center. Authorities arrived at the scene and located the involved vehicles with moderate damage. One person involved in the accident, identified as 47-year-old Armando Luis Torres, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to his injuries. One additional victim, identified as 67-year-old Deborah Heanu, was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
