Winterville, NC (May 11, 2024) – A 9th-grade student at a Pitts County school lost their life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred in Winterville on Wednesday afternoon, May 8.
Official reports indicate that a two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 11 near the intersection of Beacon Drive. Authorities arrived on site and blocked the roadway near Fred’s Food Club. Emergency officials closed off the roadway while working to remove the involved vehicles. Further investigations determined that a box truck crashed into the back of a car traveling south on the highway. The car was occupied by three people at the time of the accident. All three victims were transported by ambulance to ECU Health Medical Center. Authorities confirmed that a 15-year-old died as a result of her injuries. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
