Granville, NC (March 31, 2024) – A fatal bus accident reported on Wednesday morning in Granville claimed one person’s life. On March 26, authorities were called to the scene of a crash that occurred on Belltown Road.
According to official reports, a 17-year-old was driving a car on Belltown Road when they came into the area of a school bus near Smith Road. As the vehicle attempted to pass the school bus in a no-passing zone, it collided with a second car head-on. Authorities arrived at the scene and immediately closed off the roadway. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Karon Lamont Siplen of Oxford, was pronounced deceased while at the scene as a result of his injuries. The teenage driver is currently facing charges for driving on the left side, unsafe passing a yellow line, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, and reckless driving with wanton disregard. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
