About North Carolina Highway 49
Tracing from its southern terminus, NC 49 begins near Lake Wylie. It goes through Charlotte, becomes concurrent with US 29, and then heads northeast into Stanly County. As a scenic byway, it passes Mount Pleasant, crosses Yadkin River, skirts the northern foothills of Uwharrie Mountains, and descends into western Asheboro. Here, it joins US 64 until they split in Ramseur.
NC 49 continues north into Burlington, where it becomes concurrent with US 70 until Haw River. The state highway then meets NC 62, and here, it changes its direction to the east. It passes Roxboro, briefly travels concurrent with US 158 and US 501, before finally heading to the Virginia state line.
North Carolina Highway 49 Accidents
As with many highway accidents, vehicle wrecks on NC 49 are often devastating and can be traced to another party’s negligence. For example, a car crash killed three people on the highway, and the City of Charlotte was sued for not installing a traffic light in the area.
The lack of such traffic precautions can be considered hazardous for motorists. Other common causes of highway accidents are speeding, driver errors, and road defects. These can lead to serious injuries such as concussions, broken bones, and brain damage.
