Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in North Carolina
Every year, countless people lose their lives as a result of pedestrian crashes that take place right here in North Carolina. Unfortunately, many of these accidents are preventable. When innocent victims die as a result of fatal collisions, families often have legal options available. In most cases, families are able to initiate wrongful death claims against negligent and reckless drivers.
Wrongful death claims are designed to provide financial relief for families struggling after the loss of a loved one. Families can request compensation for funeral costs, lost earnings, loss of services, loss of consortium, and more.
Wrongful death claims are subject to a specific timeframe defined by a legal statute known as the “statute of limitations.” In North Carolina, the filing of a wrongful death lawsuit must occur within two years from the individual’s date of death. Even though you have a period of two years to file a claim, waiting can jeopardize the evidence for your claim, which may make it difficult for you to maximize your recovery. For this reason, it is crucial that you act quickly to protect your rights.
Seeking legal representation from a North Carolina wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible can help to ensure that you have the strongest evidence needed to prove your case and get justice. Your attorney will be able to get started on collecting evidence on your behalf and fighting to ensure you are able to get justice and hold the negligent party accountable.
