Columbia, SC (January 3, 2024) – One person has died as a result of a fatal fire that took place on Saturday evening in the Irmo Village Apartments. The incident was reported to officials at approximately 7:30 p.m. on December 30.
The Irmo Police Department reports indicate that a structure fire occurred at the Irmo Village Apartments located on Chipwood Road. Firefighters responded to the scene of the fire incident and immediately went to work battling the blaze. Firefighters worked extensively to take control of the situation. One person was located inside the structure. Firefighters entered the structure and removed the victim.
Unfortunately, the victim passed away from their injuries. Senior Cpl. Christopher Kaderly, who was identified as the individual who removed the trapped victim, was transported to Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital, where he was treated for injuries suffered in the fire. The circumstances surrounding the fire are currently being investigated.
