Fairfield Co., SC (January 7, 2024) – A wrong-way accident reported on Saturday evening in Fairfield County claimed one person’s life. The accident took place at around 9:10 p.m. on January 6.
According to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2020 Ford SUV was traveling south on the northbound side of Interstate 77. For unknown reasons, the vehicle collided with a 2018 Toyota utility van before crashing head-on into a 2016 Audi sedan. The incident prompted authorities to close off the roadway near mile marker 30 as they worked to remove the involved vehicles from the roadway. The driver of the Ford, who has not been identified by authorities, was fatally injured. The victim was pronounced deceased by authorities. The driver and passenger in the Toyota were injured. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency care. None of the five individuals in the Audi were injured. The circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated.
