Iredell Co., NC (February 21, 2024) – On Monday evening, a fatal motor vehicle accident was reported in Airedale County that claimed one person’s life. The accident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. on February 19.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Hummer H2 was heading eastbound on US Highway 70. For unknown reasons, the vehicle collided with a westbound 2005 Honda pilot near Fanjoy Road. The impact of the crash caused the Hummer to collide head-on with a 2001 Ford F350 pickup truck.
The driver of the Hummer, 20-year-old Lizbeth Estrada Mojica, was injured in the accident. She was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for emergency care. The driver of the Honda, 43-year-old Sandra Forney Jackson, was fatally injured and pronounced dead while at the scene. One juvenile victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency care. The driver of the Ford, 64-year-old Alvin Eugene Cape, was treated for injuries. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
