Burke Co., NC (March 19, 2024) – A woman lost her life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred in Burke County early Sunday morning, March 17. The incident was reported to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol at around 350 a.m.
According to official reports, a motor vehicle collision occurred on North Carolina Highway 114. Authorities arrived at the scene and secured the roadway near Cook Road while assisting. Preliminary investigations show that 56-year-old Jessie Johnson Wilkerson was driving a 2000 Buick Century north on the roadway when she became involved in a collision. The force of the crash sent the Buick off the side of the road, where it collided with two power poles. Wilkerson was severely hurt in the crash and flown by helicopter to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. The incident is under investigation.
