Charlotte, NC (June 29, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported in the Charlotte area claimed the life of 43-year-old Jerome Lydell Nelson. The crash occurred early Friday morning, June 28.
According to official reports, Nelson was traveling on the westernmost train tracks located in Charlotte during the early morning hours. For unknown reasons, he was struck by a train. The train, identified as the Amtrak number 79, was scheduled for stops in Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury, and Kannapolis before arriving in the Queen City area. Nelson was fatally injured as a result of the accident. Authorities pronounced the victim deceased while still at the scene. At this time, the police department is investigating the incident.
