Carteret Co., NC (July 2, 2024) – Two people have lost their lives as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday morning, June 30. The North Carolina Highway Patrol was informed of the accident at around 10:30 a.m.
Official reports indicate that 48-year-old Steven Shelton was driving a vehicle northbound on North Carolina Highway 58 during the morning hours. As he attempted to pass another vehicle, he crashed head-on into a second vehicle. After the collision, the man’s vehicle continued forward and collided with a Subaru outback. The two people involved in the crash, identified as 64-year-old Dale Mangum and 59-year-old Tammy Witham, were both fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. Shelton was seriously injured in airlifted from the scene by helicopter. He was flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for emergency care. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
