Columbia, SC (July 3, 2024) – A pedestrian who lost his life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on Tuesday has been identified as 47-year-old Carlton E. Ard.
According to official reports, Ard was walking southbound on Rosewood Drive at around 11 p.m. As he proceeded through the 1900 block of the roadway, he was struck by a Honda. The Honda was traveling eastbound at the time of the accident. Authorities arrived at the scene and located the victim approximately 250 feet from where the crash occurred. The victim was immediately pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, later identified as 18-year-old Madeline C. Kuester, was deemed to be driving at approximately 88 miles per hour when the accident occurred. She was taken into police custody and is currently facing charges of reckless homicide. The speed limit for the area was 35 miles per hour. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
