Iredell Co., NC (July 4, 2024) – Emergency crews confirmed that 28-year-old Keonte Shakir Forney lost his life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred in Iredell County. The accident took place at around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2.

Official reports indicate that a silver Hyundai Elantra was on the east side of Interstate 40 while two people were trying to change a tire on the vehicle. A trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol stopped on the side of the road to check on the people. After an unknown amount of time, the vehicle took off down the interstate and became involved in a collision with a FedEx truck. Two people in the vehicle were severely hurt. 27-year-old Ridge Raeshaun Gay was transported to an area hospital for emergency medical care. A passenger in the vehicle, who was later identified as Forney, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities later arrested Gay. He is currently facing multiple charges for the accident. The driver of the FedEx truck was treated for injuries at the scene. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
