Atlantic, NC (July 9, 2024) – Emergency crews were informed that their assistance was needed at the scene of a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday evening, July 6. The North Carolina Highway Patrol was notified of the collision at around 10:55 p.m.
Reports from authorities indicate that Tamara Willis was riding a bicycle on Highway 70 in Atlantic during the evening hours. For unknown reasons, she was struck by a GMC Sierra. Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver of the truck, Mitchell Taylor, remained at the scene. Willis sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased by authorities. Taylor was administered a breathalyzer and blew a 0.04 percent blood alcohol content level. The incident is currently being investigated.
