Asheboro, NC (February 20, 2024) – A fatal pedestrian accident reported on Friday in Asheboro led to the arrest of a driver. Authorities were called to the scene of the incident at around 4:15 a.m. on February 16.
Official reports indicate that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Oakland Avenue in Asheboro during the early morning hours. Authorities arrived at the scene and located a man on the road with severe injuries. The victim was airlifted from the scene and flown to an area hospital, where he passed away from his injuries. Authorities later identified the victim as 45-year-old Billy Glenn Medford, Jr. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the crash. Authorities later identified the driver as 44-year-old Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher. Schwarcbher is currently facing criminal charges for felony assault with a deadly weapon, causing serious injuries. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
