Cleveland Co., NC (June 12, 2024) – A young child has died as a result of a drowning incident that occurred over the weekend in Cleveland County. Authorities were called to the scene of the incident on Saturday evening, June 8.
Official reports show that a 10-year-old girl was caught in the broad River after being pulled by a current. The girl and her 12-year-old sister were unable to get out. After receiving a rescue call, emergency management responded to the scene and attempted to rescue the victims. The 10-year-old girl was fatally injured as a result of the drowning. She was pronounced deceased. The condition of the 12-year-old is not known at this time. The circumstances surrounding the drowning are being investigated.
