Duplin Co., NC (February 20, 2024) – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that 31-year-old Mildo Velasquez lost his life as a result of a truck accident that occurred on Sunday, February 18. The incident took place during the evening hours.
Preliminary investigations show that Velasquez was hauling a trailer on Interstate 40 when his trailer unhitched from his truck. After noticing the detachment, Velasquez pulled over his vehicle and exited with his family to fix the issue. After exiting the vehicle, his vehicle was struck by a car, which 19-year-old Raylee Grieco drove. The impact of the collision caused the truck and trailer to strike Velasquez, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased by authorities. The Highway Patrol troopers confirmed that Grieco was operating a vehicle while impaired and failed to reduce her speed. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
