Elizabeth City, NC (February 9, 2024) – The Elizabeth City Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Thursday morning and claimed one man’s life. The incident was reported to law enforcement at approximately 230 a.m. on February 8.
According to official reports, 43-year-old Jermaine Major was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of White Street and Walton Street. Major was severely injured after being pinned under a 2004 Acura sedan. The Pasquotank County EMS and Elizabeth City Fire Department responded to the scene to assist in removing Major from under the vehicle. Once freed by authorities, medical personnel intended to render aid to the victim. However, he passed away as a result of the injuries he suffered. The driver of the vehicle was found to be impaired at the time of the collision. She was taken into police custody, where she faces charges of driving while impaired and felony death by a motor vehicle. The Elizabeth City Police Department is investigating.
