Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
Every year, tens of thousands of families across the United States are forced to deal with the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one due to fatal accidents. The aftermath of a fatal accident is not only emotionally devastating but also brings about significant financial strain and uncertainty. For those navigating through this difficult period, filing a wrongful death claim can provide some relief for families while helping them get justice. This avenue allows for the pursuit of compensation for both economic and non-economic losses, including:
- The emotional impact experienced by losing a loved one’s companionship and guidance.
- The financial burden of medical expenses incurred prior to the loss.
- The immediate costs associated with burial and funeral services.
- The effect of lost income and potential earnings that the deceased would have contributed to the family.
- Suffering and hardship that result from the absence of care, nurture, and support previously provided by the deceased.
To initiate a wrongful death claim in our state, it is crucial to establish that you are legally entitled to do so. Generally, the right to file such a claim extends to:
- The deceased individual’s surviving spouse.
- The children of the deceased.
- In scenarios where the deceased was unmarried and childless, this right passes to the parents of the decedent.
- Alternatively, the executor or administrator of the deceased person’s estate may pursue the claim on behalf of the estate and its beneficiaries.
