Greensboro, NC (January 30, 2024) – A fatal accident reported in the Greensboro area on Monday morning claimed one person’s life. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. on January 29.
According to reports provided by the Greensboro Police Department, 51-year-old Randolph Norman Westenfelder and 30-year-old David Peterson were attempting to set up a lane closure sign on North Merle Boulevard during the morning hours. For unknown reasons, a vehicle traveled through the area and struck both of the workers.
Westenfelder was fatally injured in the accident and pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he suffered. Peterson was injured in the crash. He was rushed to an area hospital by EMS, where he was admitted in critical condition. No other injuries were reported. The police confirmed that charges are pending against the driver. The driver was identified as a 20-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina. Investigations are underway.
