Lumberton, NC (December 25, 2023) – A fatal collision took place on Saturday afternoon in Lumberton that claimed one person’s life. On December 23, authorities were called to the scene of an automobile collision that occurred on Howell Road.
Crash investigations indicate that a vehicle collision took place on the roadway in the area near Rozier Siding Road. The force of the collision caused one of the vehicles to run off the roadway and collide with a road sign before coming to rest on the northbound shoulder. The second vehicle then ran off the road on the right side of the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area while facing eastbound.
One person involved in the crash was severely hurt. The victim, identified as Kathryn Appel Johnson, sustained fatal injuries due to the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently being investigated.
