Mars Hill, NC (March 13, 2024) – Emergency crews confirmed that one person lost their life as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on Monday evening, March 11. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m.
According to official reports, a Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on Interstate 26 when the driver lost control of the vehicle near mile marker 11.5. As a result, the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment before overturning multiple times. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 28-year-old Jared Alan Wilson, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle and a rear-seat passenger were both injured and transported to the mission hospital for emergency care. Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident. However, charges against the driver are pending.
