Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Georgia
Statistics show that thousands of pedestrians in Georgia are hit by vehicles. Sadly, there are numerous cases where these individuals are unable to recover from the injuries sustained. Consequently, they succumb to their injuries, leaving families utterly devastated and torn apart. Far too often, fatal pedestrian accidents are a result of driver negligence and recklessness. Some of the most common causes include:
- Failure to yield the right of way: Failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians can result in catastrophic outcomes. Regrettably, numerous situations arise where drivers neglect to give pedestrians the right-of-way in crosswalks, leading to serious accidents.
- Poor visibility: When a driver’s visibility of a pedestrian is compromised due to weather or other factors, it can result in serious collisions. Regrettably, a notable proportion of these accidents occur during nighttime, where drivers may face challenges in spotting pedestrians due to the dimly lit road conditions.
- Speeding: When drivers are exceeding speed limits, they may find it challenging to come to a timely stop and prevent collisions with pedestrians crossing in designated crosswalks and other marked areas.
- Distracted driving: If drivers are not attentive to the road ahead, they might fail to notice pedestrians in close proximity.
- Impaired driving: If drivers are intoxicated by drugs or alcohol, they may struggle to bring their vehicles to a stop, increasing the risk of collisions with pedestrians.
