Fatal Auto Accidents in North Carolina
Every year, a significant number of lives are tragically lost in fatal accidents across the United States. Specifically, in North Carolina, we have observed a concerning 21 percent increase in reported fatal accidents between 2019 and 2022. In 2022 alone, over 1700 individuals lost their lives in fatal collisions within our state.
Regrettably, many innocent individuals fall victim to fatal accidents due to the negligence of drivers. Following the loss of a loved one, it is crucial to be aware of the legal recourse available to you. Families have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim against the negligent party responsible for the tragic incident.
It is essential to understand that North Carolina adheres to the pure contributory negligence doctrine. According to this law, families can file wrongful death claims to seek compensation, covering expenses such as medical bills, funeral costs, and other associated damages. However, demonstrating that the defendant bears 100 percent fault for the accident is paramount for a successful claim.
If even a fraction of responsibility (even one percent) lies with your loved one for the accident, your family may be unable to recover any compensation for losses. Thus, having a dedicated legal team supporting you throughout the wrongful death claim process is crucial.
Engaging a North Carolina wrongful death lawyer can offer your family the necessary support and guidance during this challenging period. With their experience and commitment, they can advocate for justice and fair compensation on behalf of your departed family member.
