Savannah, GA (December 12, 2023) – A fatal accident was reported in the Savannah area that claimed one person’s life. On December 10, the Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene of an accident on Interstate 95.
According to official reports, a vehicle collision occurred on the southbound side of the interstate near mile marker 101 just before 11:00 p.m. The Savannah Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol were notified that a wrong-way driver was traveling north on the south side of the interstate when their vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle. While responding to the accident, a Savannah police officer attempted to avoid debris on the roadway and lost control of their vehicle. As a result, the police vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer.
The officer was seriously injured in the crash and transported to an area hospital for emergency care. One person involved in the initial collision sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. At this time, the Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
