Fatal Car Accidents in South Carolina
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were approximately 42,915 traffic fatalities in the United States in 2021. This represents a 10.5% increase from 2020 and the highest annual percentage increase in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System’s history. The leading causes of fatal crashes in 2021 were:
Impaired driving: Driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to operate their vehicle responsibly. Impairment can impact your judgment, coordination, and reaction time. This can lead to devastating car crashes.
Speeding: When motorists are traveling above the posted speed limit, they are likely to cause severe injury accidents. Unfortunately, the high rate of speed drastically increases the force at impact, which can lead to fatal injuries.
Distracted driving: When drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead, they may not see other vehicles or pedestrians nearby. As a result, they are likely to crash and harm others. Distractions include actions like texting on the phone, talking on the phone, or even changing the radio.
