Sumter, SC (February 20, 2024) – Authorities confirmed that one person lost their life as a result of a fire incident reported on Sunday evening in Sumter. Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m. on February 18.
According to official reports, a fire occurred inside a single-family home located in the 100 block of Newberry Avenue. Firefighters responded to the scene and spent more than 45 minutes extinguishing the blaze. A total of 18 firefighters responded to assist. After taking control of the situation, firefighters located one man inside of the home. The victim, identified as 86-year-old Edward Brunson, suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries by authorities. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
