Wilkes, NC (May 11, 2024) – A 20-year-old man from Wilkesboro lost his life as a result of a fatal accident reported on Thursday afternoon in Wilkes County. The accident took place at around 1:30 p.m. on May 9.
Reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol indicate that a 2009 Toyota Venza was traveling south on North Carolina Highway 16 behind a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. As the Silverado attempted to slow down to make a left turn into a driveway, the Toyota collided with it. The impact of the crash sent the Silverado across the center line, where it collided head-on with a 2008 Jeep Liberty, which was traveling north on the roadway.
One person involved in the accident, identified as Shane Reese Cleary, was fatally injured in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle. A 43-year-old man involved in the accident, identified as Nathan Shane Oxentine, was injured. He was transported to a hospital in an area for medical care. The accident is being investigated at this time.
