Williamston, SC (April 6, 2024) – A three-month-old child died as a result of a fatal accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon, April 4. The accident wasn’t reported at around 145 p.m.
Preliminary reports indicate that multiple vehicles, including a cement truck, were involved in a collision on Highway 29 in the area near Welcome Road. Further investigations show that a 2006 Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound on the highway when it was stopped in traffic due to road work in the area. At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet sedan was traveling south on the roadway and pulled up behind the Dodge. For reasons unknown, a 2018 Terex concrete truck was traveling behind the vehicles and crashed into the Chevrolet from behind. The impact of the crash caused the Chevrolet to strike the pickup truck in the rear. The cement truck then overturned.
A 3-month-old child involved in the accident was severely injured. The victim was extricated from the vehicle and had to be airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Authorities confirmed that the child passed away from their injuries on Friday, April 5. The driver of the sedan was also airlifted by a helicopter and flown to the same hospital for emergency treatment. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
We hope the injured victim recovers quickly following this accident.
Our sympathies go out to the family of the victim killed in this crash.
