Asheville, NC (January 15, 2024) – The Asheville Police Department confirmed that two people died as a result of an accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Just after 2:00 p.m. on January 10, the police and firefighters were called to the scene of a crash on Tunnel Road.
According to official reports, a motor vehicle accident took place in the 1400 block of the roadway near the Holiday Inn. The incident prompted authorities to shut down the road as they provided assistance. Two people inside one of the vehicles were fatally injured. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. The victims were later identified as 72-year-old Charlotte Metcalf and 75-year-old Matthew Metcalf. One victim involved in the accident, identified as Mark Davis, was injured. Davis was transported to Mission Hospital for emergency care. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
