Wilsons Mills, NC (June 12, 2024) – Authorities have confirmed that 79-year-old Bonney Wheatley of Raleigh lost her life as a result of a fatal truck accident that took place in Wilsons Mills on Monday, June 10.
At around 1:00 p.m., multiple cars and a tractor-trailer collided on Highway 70. The incident blocked several eastbound lanes of the roadway near the Swift Creek Road overpass. Authorities immediately shut down the road to assist. A woman involved in the accident, identified as Wheatley, was pronounced deceased from her injuries. A total of six additional victims were injured in the crash. All six victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency care. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 77-year-old Robert Wallace, was subsequently charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The Wilsons Mills Police Department is investigating the crash.
