Griffin, GA (February 21, 2024) – The Griffin Police Department confirmed that 23-year-old Madison Summerville lost her life as a result of a fire incident that occurred in the Griffin area. Calls for help were received on February 15 regarding a fire on Old Atlanta Road.

Reports provided by the Spalding County Fire Department show that a fire occurred inside a mobile home in the 4200 block of the roadway. Firefighters rushed to the scene and immediately went to work battling the blaze. Summerville was attempting to help her children escape through a window. A neighbor ran in to assist in rescuing two more children in the home. Summerville was severely injured as a result of the fire. A medical helicopter responded to fly the children to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for emergency treatment. Summerville was also transported to an area hospital, where she died the next day. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
