About Interstate 73 in North Carolina

Interstate 73 or “I-73” is an interstate highway that is located within the state of North Carolina. Once scheduled projects have been completed, the entire highway will run from South Carolina up until Roanoke, Virginia.

Although I-73 in North Carolina is currently only about 58 miles long and is in two distinct sections, plans are underway for much expansion. It begins just south of Candor, crossing 26.6 miles north of Asheboro. It then continues another 7.5 miles along the Greensboro Urban Loop’s southwestern section. Eventually, the interstate will cross north to south through central Piedmont, and connect the cities of Rockingham, Asheboro, and Greensboro.

At present, I-73 serves the North Carolina counties of Richmond, Montgomery, Randolph, Guilford, and Rockingham.

Accidents and Injuries on I-73

While highways offer a tremendous amount of convenience to individuals traveling from one place to another, these roadways can also be a tremendous risk to both drivers and passengers. With passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles traveling at dangerously fast speeds, it only takes the negligence of one driver to turn a situation into something devastating or even fatal.

Vehicular accidents are extremely common on highways, including on Interstate 73. Examples of common highway accidents are those involving rear-end collisions, head-on collisions, multiple car pile-ups, rollovers, jackknifing, swerving, sideswiping, and speeding. In other instances, accidents are a result of poorly maintained roads, poor weather conditions, defective equipment, and highway defects.

Unfortunately, such accidents oftentimes result in severe injuries, and even fatalities, such as spinal cord injuries, neck injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and loss of limbs.
