Fatal Car Accidents in South Carolina

Chester Co., SC – SC-72 Crash at E Chapel Rd Takes Two LivesFatal accidents are often devastating. Unfortunately, they take the lives of tens of thousands of people across the United States each year. Approximately 1700 people die as a result of accidents in our state annually.

There are far too many instances where these accidents are a result of negligent drivers. Some of the common factors in fatal collisions across our state include:

  • Impaired Driving: This is when the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Impaired drivers have reduced reaction times and impaired judgment, which makes them a danger to themselves and others on the road.
  • Distracted Driving: This is when the driver’s attention is diverted from the road by activities such as texting, talking on the phone, using in-car infotainment systems, eating, or anything else that takes their eyes, hands, or mind off of driving.
  • Speeding: Driving too fast for the conditions or in excess of the posted speed limit is a major factor in fatal car crashes. Speeding gives drivers less time to react to unexpected situations and increases the severity of collisions when they do occur.
