Davidson Co., NC (May 4, 2024) – A fatal crash reported in Davidson County claimed the lives of two men. The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. on May 2.

According to official reports, a 1997 Ford pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 85. At the same time, a 2002 Ford pickup truck was also traveling in the same direction on the road. As the vehicles moved forward, the driver of the 2002 Ford failed to slow down and collided with the 1997 Ford’s trailer. Two people involved in the crash sustained fatal injuries. The victims, identified as 61-year-old Mark Hughes and 68-year-old Alan Wendell Sanderson, were both pronounced deceased. The driver of the 2002 Ford, identified as 48-year-old Jerry Dan Surratt II, was transported to Atrium Heath Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for the treatment of serious injuries. At this time, investigations into the crash are ongoing.

We hope Jerry Dan Surratt II recovers quickly from his injuries.
