Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Georgia

Forsyth Co., GA – Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Dawsonville HwyFatal accidents happen with alarming regularity in our state, and the shock and grief they bring to families are profound and often overwhelming. Despite their frequency, the sudden loss of a loved one in such circumstances leaves a void that is difficult to fill. Many of these tragic events occur due to reckless behavior on the road. Common causes of fatal motorcycle accidents include:

  • Failing to Yield Right of Way: Car drivers often cause accidents by not yielding at intersections, especially when making left turns, leading to collisions with motorcycles.
  • Opening Doors Without Checking: Drivers parked on the side of the road can cause fatal accidents by opening their vehicle’s door without checking for oncoming motorcycles.
  • Distracted Driving: Engaging in activities that divert attention from the road, such as texting or adjusting the radio, can lead to drivers not seeing motorcycles until it’s too late.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Impairment from alcohol or drugs drastically reduces a driver’s ability to react to motorcycles, resulting in severe accidents.
  • Speeding: Exceeding speed limits makes it harder for car drivers to stop or maneuver in time to avoid hitting a motorcycle.
  • Tailgating: Following a motorcycle too closely leaves insufficient stopping distance if the motorcycle brakes suddenly, often leading to rear-end collisions.
