Spartanburg, SC (October 29, 2023) – A fatal accident reported on Friday evening in Spartanburg claimed one person’s life, according to reports provided by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported just before 9:15 p.m. on October 27.
Reports provided by CHP show that a 2016 Mazda sedan and a 2021 Toyota SUV were both traveling southbound on Interstate 85. The driver of the Mazda attempted to pass the Toyota when the two vehicles became involved in a collision. The force of the collision sent the Mazda off the roadway, where it struck a guardrail near mile marker 68.
The driver of the Mazda was fatally injured and pronounced dead on site. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
