Warrensville, SC (January 1, 2024) – A fatal accident reported in Warrensville claimed one person’s life on New Year’s Eve. At around 8:10 p.m. on December 31, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a crash on South Carolina State Route 28, Fury’s Ferry Road.
Reports provided by the Sheriff’s Office indicate that a Nissan Altima was heading westbound on the roadway when it collided with a Toyota 4Runner in the area of Millstone Drive. Authorities confirmed that the Toyota entered the roadway while pulling into the path of the vehicle. The driver of the Nissan was severely hurt in the crash. The victim was transported to Augustine University Medical Center for emergency care. However, they died from their injuries after arriving. The victim was later identified as 23-year-old Carson Levi Downs. A 16-year-old was driving the Toyota at the time of the crash. Investigations into the accident are underway.
