Greensboro, NC – One Killed in I-85 Crash near S Elm-Eugene St

 Greensboro, NC (February 3, 2024) – The Greensboro Police Department confirmed that one person died as a result of a fatal collision that occurred on Thursday evening in Greensboro. The incident took place at approximately 4:00 p.m. on February 1.

According to official reports, a 1994 Mercedes-Benz C2 80 was traveling on Interstate 85 during the evening hours. For reasons unknown, a 2019 Jeep Compass collided with the rear of the vehicle. The force of the collision caused the Mercedes to go off the right side of the roadway. The driver of the Mercedes, 37-year-old Erika McNeal, was severely injured in the crash. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 47-year-old Amy Barber, was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. Barber is currently facing charges for failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, as well as misdemeanor death by vehicle. The incident is being investigated.
